SDP, HNS, HDZ articles...[edit]
Hy, what I am trying to tell about the numbers you included into the table is that those are the numbers of preferential votes won by SDP, HNS, HDZ, etc. candidates but those are not total votes won by particular parties in the coalition because there were voters that voted for the list, and not for any candidate on that list. So I propose that we include those numbers as a note. Greetings. United Union (talk) 08:10, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Grammar query[edit]
G'day Joy, just a grammar query (it has never been my strong suit in any language...). We currently have categories at Ustaša Militia, Ustaša Militia personnel and Ustaše. The articles are at Ustaše Militia and Ustaše. Sources vary between the two. Is one more grammatically correct than the other in these contexts? Talk:List of Serbia international footballers (including predecessor teams)#RfC on "including predecessor teams[edit]
Hello. I saw your post here and I have read the discussions following that reference. I would like to say that I support your stand. Players who had played for Yugoslavia can't be regarded as players who had played for Serbia. That is simply wrong and no matter what FIFA says can't change the fact that Serbia does not equal Yugoslavia. I was the one who had started that RfC on Yugoslavia's talk page and you know how much trouble I had with that editor who is very nationalistic and who does not discuss in good faith. I had spent few months battling him on Serbs of Croatia article and subsequently on Yugoslavia talk page. If this discussion comes again I can write my opinion and participate to some extent although this discussion does not lay among my interests since you had helped my in that Yugoslavia rfc (and Serbs of Croatia). 89.164.126.224 (talk) 19:03, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Coronation-tomislav-tablet.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Re: Award for 100,000 edits[edit]
Thank you for the acknowledgement!
However, I'm afraid I don't necessarily see a whole lot of meaning in such a milestone per se, I also don't use Wikipedia:Service awards, and it seems you were the only person who noticed this. So while I am indeed happy that another random Wikipedian found something to be happy about with another random Wikipedian, I don't think it's significant enough to display on my user page, and it runs the risk of encouraging WP:editcountitis :) I hope you don't mind. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 11:50, 10 July 2016 (UTC)
- Joy [shallot], Hey, it's your WP:User page and you get to do with it as you will.
- Indeed, I have a user box that says that edit counts are only one measure, It is a simple easily understood quantitative measurement, and ignores entirely questions of quality and efficacyy.
This user believes that a user's edit count does not necessarily reflect on the value of their contributions to Wikipedia. |
- And I agree also that the number itself is recognized only because it is a simple one (all those zeroes) and gets into six figure. Rather like having an Odometer turn over.
- It is relatively rare. And truth be told, in the grand scheme of Wikipedia and your edit history, your 100,000th edit is insignificant. And no more or less important than any other of your edits. In fact, your first edit was the beginning of your journey and avocation, after all. Further, as of this date fewer than 500 wikipedians achieved that mark.
- All that being said, it is a memorable mile marker that was earned through a lot of long term effort. Your cumulative contribution is not a flash in the pan. It is appreciated. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 14:38, 10 July 2016 (UTC)
Your administrator status on hr.wikipedia[edit]
Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.
You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on the wiki listed above. Since that wiki does not have its own rights review process, the global one applies.
If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights.
If you wish to resign your rights, you can reply here or request removal of your rights on Meta.
If there is no response at all after approximately one month, stewards will proceed to remove your administrator and/or bureaucrat rights. In ambiguous cases, stewards will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact the stewards. Rschen7754 07:06, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Rschen7754:, I've had a look and it seems there's some ambiguity, so let's see if anyone wants to explicate it. Either way, the plan seems solid.
- It should probably be noted that I don't want to do anything ambiguous there, because hr.wikipedia has had egregious issues with basic processes as described at meta:Requests for comment/2013 issues on Croatian Wikipedia, which escalated into a highly publicized national embarrassment. I haven't been involved since that scandal had faded, and have no idea what happened afterwards. Have the stewards observed an improvement? --Joy [shallot] (talk) 14:24, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Considering disciplinary measures against Zoupan[edit]
Frankly, I've had it enough with this user. It's beyond me how he has been able to remain on Wikipedia for so long with his blatant POV. The latest example, and hitherto by far most obvious, is the article Serb Muslims created by himself where he sets out to claim the majority-Serb origin of the Bosnian Muslims citing a Serb economist who presents a less than flawed conclusion of the "predominant Serb origin" of Bosnian Muslims based on the so-called "evidence" of two commonly used examples by Serb nationalist (Mesa Selimovic and Mehmet Pasha Sokolovic) and another obscure one of apparent hearsay. He also goes on to cite some semi-deluded "Serb Muslim" historian from the fringes of sanity. I've deleted the nonsense and urged him to tread lightly, but I am expecting a s*it storm. Speedy deletion nomination of Krbava[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Krbava requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:14, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins[edit]
Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers[edit]
Hi Joy.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Ways to improve Battlefield illumination[edit]
Hi, I'm Chiswick Chap. Joy, thanks for creating Battlefield illumination!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Hi, and thanks for adding Battlefield illumination. The article needs more references to enable other editors to verify the facts in the article - these can be to textbooks, journal papers, or reliable websites. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:45, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Proposed deletion of Vegeta (condiment)[edit]
The article Vegeta (condiment) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
no evidence of notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DGG ( talk ) 04:47, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Meta[edit]
Here it is: [4]. The entire process turned into a comedy of errors. Nevertheless, I still don't think I'd agree with the steward's decision and its rationale. (That's if it was of any consequence one way or the other, which I'd say it isn't.) GregorB (talk) 08:37, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, AAR still applies. Nevertheless, since they don't have their own process, wouldn't it be fair to assume the community has full discretion about giving or removing admin tools? Normally, an admin may be demoted through a community vote for pretty much any reason; that has nothing to do with AAR. So, I was a bit stumped here. Still, as I said, no real difference. GregorB (talk) 19:28, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- From my perspective, whoever did the nominations was very selective in who got nominated: [5] and also the AAR removal done here Anything from hrwiki is already looked at with extra scrutiny by stewards anyway. --Rschen7754 19:53, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- Rschen7754, indeed: targeting certain admins, all the while resisting the implementation of local AAR policy despite multiple calls to do so - all part of the above-mentioned "comedy of errors". Kubura fumbled the voting deadline and changed it later without providing an edit summary (his habit), which made it appear as if he was unilaterally, surreptitiously cutting the voting short. Denny appealed, and more nonsense followed.[6] Apart from that, I was surprised (or maybe not, given that's hr wiki) to see that amount of disdain and resentment towards inactive admins, as if walking away from wiki is a crime.
- As for "extra scrutiny", Rschen, you'll forgive me if I say in this particular case it looks more like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. GregorB (talk) 20:52, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not a steward anymore, so it's not any of my doing The problem is that this is an area that nobody is tasked with and nobody really has a mandate to do anything. Stewards won't do anything (apart from a few acting on their own) and arguably can't anyway since they can't without local or global consensus. WMF has refused to do anything, repeatedly. So I'm not sure where that leaves hrwiki. The closest thing possible might be to get some global discussion (but this time, keep it simple, not tl;dr), or to enforce the global inactivity policies strictly and hope there is some sort of change eventually. --Rschen7754 20:59, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- Um, the whole inactivity desysop issue is completely tangential to the egregious abuses going on at hrwiki. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 19:22, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)[edit]
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of File:Balkan Wars basics.png[edit]
The file File:Balkan Wars basics.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
Notability question[edit]
Hey Joy. Long time no Wikipedia interaction! I was just trying to assess the notability of Zehra Bajraktarević and thought of you as someone who might be able to help assess the local-language sources. Would you be able to give me your view on whether she meets WP:GNG when you get a chance? Cordless Larry (talk) 14:25, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there :) I googled her, looks like a minor singer, but I couldn't find a single e.g. interview in a notable paper or something like that. I tagged the article because I couldn't confirm it meets WP:SINGER. If nobody provides some actual encyclopedic references, it looks like a candidate for deletion. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 15:55, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

- @Tvrtko Kotromanic: Thanks for the links, but they seem to be fairly trivial mentions. Please review the WP:SIGCOV policy to understand better what we mean. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 09:26, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, Joy. I'll consider what's best to do in light of this. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:11, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
