Hello and welcome :) I hope you like the place and choose to stay.

Some useful links:

By the way, re The Stanford Persuasive Technology Lab, if you want to make a stub, put a sentence describing the external link, instead of just the link itself, and we don't usually sign contributions either. Thanks, and have fun! :) Dysprosia 13:35, 5 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Little late, but I noted that the page in question still is a stub … I will take a look at it again. -- Jens, 10:29, 15 Mar 2008 (CET)

You probably want to help in improving our markup, usability, and accessibility related articles ? For instance what about Conditional Comments you criticize so much ? I dont understand the german part (this) of your work but that might surely help the German Wikipedia too :-) Jonas, 21 Oct 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Just a tiny note. We recommend only using straight apostrophes at WP:PUNCT. That's all :) -- Quiddity (talk) 17:34, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia blocking VPNs[edit]

What is your position on this, exactly? Can you link to the WP discussions on the topic? Ogress smash! 22:04, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

My position is rather simple: Authenticated users should be allowed to edit Wikipedia from any connection (forcing login is already an interesting demand, for anonymity does not equal malevolence). Forcing users off VPNs or Tor, then, as it seems practice for a while, appears excessive and like intentionally throwing users under the (mass surveillance) bus, for users don't only visit Wikipedia, and may forget having been forced off a secure connection. I wish a more tactful approach to Wikipedia's spam issues, if that's the motivation behind this—take a user's account age and edit history in account before forcing them to a different connection, make that insecure connection requirement a 50/50 thing, use CAPTCHAs, &c. There are probably a number of nicer alternatives to what's enforced right now.—j9t (talk) 14:37, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

Caught by a web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. (Using a VPN.) j9t (talk) 18:56, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

Accept reason:

You do not appear to be blocked - 16 mins after you made this request you edited an outside page. I see no blocks, or autoblocks affecting you. You may want to see WP:IPEC regarding requesting IP Block Exemption. In this case - you would probably need to contact functionaries-en to request this flag. SQLQuery me! 19:12, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired.

Not sure how to respond to unblock template stuff, however the reason why I could (and did) edit a page despite reporting a block was simply that I went off my VPN. At this point, again on a VPN connection, I still can't edit anything other than this talk page.—j9t (talk) 19:35, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message[edit]

Scale of justice 2.svgHello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:14, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
