Sitcom fate?[edit]
What happens to his sitcom now? PMelvilleAustin 14:59, Sep 12, 2003 (UTC)
- Good question. I assume that if it is doing well, they'll replace him with another actor and hope no one notices. If it's ratings are floudering, they'll use his death as an excuse to cancel the show. These are just guesses, though... —Frecklefoot 19:21, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- I don't know if they'd pull a "Darrin" - after all Dick York wasn't dead when they replaced him with Dick Sargent - i fear the death of John Ritter means the death of "Eight Simple Rules..." PMelvilleAustin
The only possible savior I can see on the horizon would be Ed O'Neill, who would reunite with Katy Segal to play a kinder, gentler Al Bundy. --SeanO 00:35, Sep 13, 2003 (UTC)
- They could get away replacing Dick York with Dick Sargeant because the series focus was on Elizabeth Montgomery. If Montgomery had died, Bewitched would have sunk. PMelvilleAustin is probably correct. Since Ritter is the star of that series, I don't see it doing very well with a replacement.
- As a couter argument, there've been seven(?) James Bonds but only one Q.
- Dang =( I dug out Noises Off a weekor two ago and it crossed my mind that JSR was the only one i knew still practicing veaudeville...what's gonna become of that now? (Anyone gonna start a speculation about a curse on Noises Off (Elliot, Reeve, Ritter) like the one on the set Michael J Fox started on?) -- Kwantus 20:38, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- True but James Bond isn't the same as a television comedy series like Bewitched or Eight Simple Rules - it's not on every week with the same circumstances, same set and the same in-laws to deal with. Then again James Bond fans believe that Sean Connery was the best Bond and the others are merely repeating a franchise he set in earlier films.
Nonsence. Roger Moore was the best Bond! Connery was a warm up man at best!
Full first name[edit]
Is it really Johnathan? Did he have an unusual name, or is this a typo? -- hike395 04:43, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- I think it's a typo... [1] Evil saltine 04:46, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
No, it is Johnathan, When i did the research for the original article, this is how i found it spelled JonMoore 09:58, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Did some more research, found it spelled both ways...can anybody confirm this??? --JonMoore 09:58, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Guest roles[edit]
Do we need to include Ritter's guest roles? I was watching Nick@Nite and they did a whole night of just his guest roles from The Mary Tyler Moore Show to The Cosby Show. --JonMoore 06:36, 17 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Show continued after his death[edit]
According to Fox News, 8 Simple Rules will go on. ABC is to air the final three John Ritter episodes, then go into reruns. It is rumored that the show will take on an ensambble feel with Katey Sagal at front and Henry Winkler stepping in as an uncle.
Does this have any place on the 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter page?? --JonMoore 11:57, 17 Sep 2003 (UTC)
There are references to it from Simple Rules.
Date of death[edit]
It's a bit ironic that He died on the 2-year anniversary of the 11 September 2001 disaster. -- Eddie 15:29, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Do you know the meaning of the word "ironic"? Unless Ritter had some sort of personal connection with 9/11, I don't see how there is any irony. -- Anonymous, 11 May 2006
He's right, the actual ironic thing about his death is that it was the same day of his daughter's birthday. The 9/11 thing isnt ironic, just interesting.--Stripedtiger 04:10, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Again, check the meaning of the word "ironic". This word is misused more often than any other English word, especially by journalists and sportscasters. "ironic" is not synonymous with "coincidence". It refers to an instance where something occurs that is the opposite of what is intended to or expected to occur. For instance, let's say someone starts using the nicotine patch to help them quit smoking (thus prolonging their life). If the person develops an allergic reaction to the patch and dies from it, THAT would be irony. Two people who are related and have the same birthday is not an example of irony. Not even a little bit. —– Anonymous, September 19, 2006
Let me put it to you this way. The day that was meant to be celebratory of Ritter's daughter's life, which turned into a mournful occasion of the loss of Ritter's life. Thus making it ironic.--Stripedtiger (talk) 14:31, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Thats still not irony. Going by that theory almost everyones death is ironic, ill willing to bet the vast majority of humans die on some day thats significant to someone in their family--219.89.10.23 (talk) 19:36, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Scrubs[edit]
John Ritter made several guest appearances on Scrubs as the main Characters Father shortly after his death there was an episode 4-06 "My Cake" dedicated to John Ritter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.141.71.204 (talk) 20:25, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Vietnam service[edit]
I remember hearing somewhere that Ritter served in Vietnam. Anyone have any information on that? 69.58.249.133 07:16, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
I did hear that somewhere, in an interview somewhere. I don't think it was he who said it, it was someone talking about veterans in hollywood and Ritter was cited as being a Vietnam veteran. Like a lot of veterans of that war, there were many whom did not want to talk about it or acknowledge it, so unless his estate provides something more substantial regarding this, I think we should not cite it without a REALLY good source. Cleanup?[edit]
What's with the cleanup tag? Seems alright to me... anyone have any specific concerns? Personally I think it's in need of expansion, not cleanup. — riana_dzasta • t • c • e • ER • 06:05, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Reference 7[edit]
To the editors of this article: Note that ref 7 is no longer working, please find the article and renew the link. It is about the judgement of the doctors who were sued for not realizing the real medical condition. Henry Winkler is mentioned at the end of the link text, maybe he was the author of the referenced article. John Ritter will live in our memory, it is so sad that he died so young. (Roger491127) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.249.177.244 (talk) 18:34, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- The link should still be OK, but the E! Online site is notoriously unreliable (endless redirect loops, and the like) when accessed from outside the US. I've tried hardcoding in the Canadian site, which seems like the most stable at the moment. Hqb (talk) 21:10, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Testicles[edit]
No reference to John Ritter's testicles appearing in an episode of Three's Company? Not even a mention? Seemed noteworthy to me. 207.154.101.184 (talk) 00:43, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

HIV DIAGNOSIS[edit]
I have not seen any reference to John Ritter being diagnosed with HIV, this seems to me should be removed if there is no credible citation. TomasMFC (talk) 08:10, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Connections to others death[edit]
Ok so my main cause for complaint in this was the use of the word "interestingly" as this was drawing an un-sourced conclusion. But in reality John Cash dying and being connected to John Ritter just because his dad once worked with him is frankly a stretch and does nothing to add to this article. Also for the record youtube is not a reliable source. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 07:33, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
Avoiding edit/revert wars per Tex Ritter vs Johnny Cash[edit]
I think the previous editor claiming Cash covered or sang songs written by Tex Ritter got their info from "sources" (sites) such as these examples, although they both clearly appeared and performed on shows together as per the Youtube video included on my recent edit summary (and there is a possibility they both sang each others songs or even contributed to writing credits):
Regardless, PLEASE follow proper steps to disputing and resolving disagreements with edits to avoid "wars" and unnecessary reverts. Thank you, kindly! 99.129.112.89 (talk) 07:43, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
So there isn't a connection between John Ritter and John Cash other then his father? Why do we have to mention it in John Ritter's article again? I am not questioning the link of Tex and John Cash, just the connection of John R and John C. which I can see from above you have no way of showing. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 08:13, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
- Those are not my sources defending the statement. Again, I'm "saying" those may be where whoever typed that entry is getting their info, but I'm only speculating. Regardless, your toxic/negative/abusive attitude (remarks) is not one I want to continue putting up with though, so I do not care anymore at this point and it's not worth being a "right fighter". I was simply trying to help instead of being part of the problem, which is more than I can say about you. It is what it is. Good day/night! Note: Hell in a Bucket violated the three revert rule causing an edit war prior to me leaving a message on his talk page and him having a discussion here first per my edit summary notes. 99.129.112.89 (talk) 08:29, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
I see you speak wiki, let me reply in kind. I'd suggest reviewing WP:3RR, WP:NPA as to what is a personal attack or "Abuse" , and also WP:AGF. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 08:38, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
- I never said you "abused" or "attacked" me. I'm aware of those and other policies. However, I don't showboat what I know, instead I actually 'walk the talk'. But you need to also assume good faith and not violate the unspoken "don't be a dick" rule. You're not worth returning here for, I just thought I'd leave it at that. I won't be back to read anything sassy you may have to say (you'll be typing to yourself)... I only expand and fix contributions on Wiki including this article (which I had plans of expanding the intro/lead more eventually)... I don't intentionally cause edit wars and/or problems. I try to find solutions. 'Interestingly' was changed from 'Ironically', but neither really need to be present. Nonetheless, the connection was supposed to tie in the fact that Ritter and Cash died between a short period of time from each other. Otherwise the statement makes no sense. But I couldn't care less if it is there or not, I'm not trying to be right like you. My issue is people like you who don't follow policy. You should have left the statement and discussed it on the talk page first. You're why there are problems on Wiki and "newbies" or "IPs" get warned/blocked. Don't judge someone by their username or lack of one. You never know who's editing. Class dismissed. Shalom! 99.129.112.89 (talk) 03:57, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
- I don't believe I ever made a reference to you being an IP, I don't care who's editing whether it's an Anon, Arb member or indeed the US President. I'd like to point out WP:DICK is an essay (not policy) and to also point out to violate 3:RR you have to revert more then three times which if you do the count I didn't and neither did you. I think you have a slight issue with understanding the policies which is what I was pointing out. I referenced NPA for "Regardless, your toxic/negative/abusive attitude (remarks)". I referenced WP:AGF because it's quite apparent from your comments here that you could use it. You've attacked my personal character quite a few times in your diatribes, whereas I have made zero about you, your edit habits or being an IP. I'm sorry if you chose to see this in an attacking light but if you reread it there is absolutely zero in there other then a what my issue was and asking you questions to further explain the rationale. I don't go to talkpages in cases like this because it's a non controversial edit. It's an edit grounded in policy, the fact that John Cash and Tex Ritter are connected should be mentioned on their pages. John Ritter only has a coincidental connection via his father. Remember Wikipedia is not a random collection of facts or trivia. So whether you respond or not, I do trust that you will at least read it you may want to reread this without colored glasses this time. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 04:17, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Comedian?[edit]
Hi. Not trying to splice hairs here, but he is repeatedly referred to as a comedian on this page, and nothing in the article, except for the Knotts quote, reflects that he in fact was a professional comedian. Was he a 'comedic actor'? I think this is an important distinction- they are 2 different careers. Are there any records of his standup or improv background to add to his background?Coemgenv (talk) 17:42, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

He and Yasbeck had one daughter, Stella, born one year before they married Navz666 (talk) 10:04, 7 November 2014 (UTC) original page states "He and Yasbeck had one daughter, Stella, born one week before they married", Amy Yasbeck's pages states the child was born in September 1998 and both actors' pages state that they were married in September 1999, please correct.
- The source given here says "They wed Sept. 18, a week after their daughter was born.". Can you please provide a link to the source that says otherwise? Stickee (talk) 10:46, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
- I've actually changed Yasbeck's page to match Ritter's, the source cited on Yasbeck's page is not accessible. See no reason not to trust People on this sort of thing. Cannolis (talk) 14:27, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
- Stella Ritter - IMDb - Stella Ritter's IMDB page states that she was born September 11, 1998.
Amy Yasbeck - IMDb - Yasbeck's page states that she was married to John Ritter (18 September 1999 - 11 September 2003) (his death) (1 child) Navz666 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 09:54, 10 November 2014 (UTC) Not done IMDb is not a reliable source - but the article is no longer protected, so you can make the change yourself, if/when you find a Reliable source. - Arjayay (talk) 13:18, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
I removed some text[edit]
I removed this bit:
Both sides agree that Ritter's true condition—an aortic dissection, which is a tear in the largest blood vessel in the body that grows until one suffers cardiac arrest or until trapped blood leaks out of the vessel—was not identified until just prior to his death because of the failure of emergency medicine physician Dr. Lawrence Wells to obtain a chest X-ray prior to diagnosing
This was not stated in the cited source (now dead link, archived here). Looking around further, I can find no secondary coverage of a Lawrence Wells in relation to Ritter. The only mention of him is in a apparent scan of the malpractice complaint that names him, as well as 2 other ER docs as having cared for him. While Wells may have settled with Yasbeck, as could be alluded to here, there is no "both sides agreeing" to this being Wells' fault. It also appears that the x-ray was ordered but never obtained, not to mention that a x-ray is not a great test for dissection in the first place. Cannolis (talk) 14:08, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
Error in Awards section[edit]
Ritter's 1999 Emmy nomination for "Ally McBeal" wasn't in the Lead Actor category, but rather as 'Outstanding Guest Actor'. Since I am somewhat inexperienced in terms of editing and don't want to mess things up by dividing categories, I decided to post the information here so that someone with a clue may fix it. Thank you very much. Sahjhan (talk) 16:20, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
