Phil Silvers has been listed as a level-5 vital article in People, Entertainers. If you can improve it, please do. This article has been rated as Start-Class. |
Date of birth[edit]
IMDB have 1911 as the birth year, I've not changed it. Sources on the web are split roughly evenly between 1911 and 1912 - and even other parts of Wikipedia claim he was born in 1911. Any idea how to sort out this mess? -- Morwen.
- If sources are split, and all sources are equally trustworthy, then I guess all we can do is say "1912 (some sources say 1911)" or "1911 (some sources say 1912)" or something like that. --Camembert
The Social Security Death Index states he was born on 12 May 1911, a day later than the article and IMDb state.
Nancy (with the laughing face)[edit]
Phil Silvers is listed as the co-writer of this song - recorded by Sinatra and Coltrane, among others. Is this the same Phil Silvers as the commedian? If it is, it should probably be listed here. Editor437 00:15, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
His eyeglasses[edit]
At one point in his life, Silvers took to wearing contact lenses and no longer needed his familiar eyeglasses. He would wear emptry frames because people couldn't recognize him otherwise. (I heard him explain this on Tom Snyder's Tomorrow show one night.) I saw him play the lead in A Funny Thing ... in Chicago, and he wore the anachronistic glasses in ancient Rome. Fair use rationale for Image:Bilko title.jpg[edit]
Image:Bilko title.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:14, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Category: American Jews[edit]
Can I add him to the category American Jews? He is American and Jewish after all. If no one objects within a week I will add him. Thanks Anibar E (talk) 03:37, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
The Penguins of Madagascar[edit]
Although I was a fan of Phil back in the 50's, I actually came to this page whilst watching the above animation. There is a character named 'Skip' I think, who sounds and acts a little like Bilko. (Enough to make me look Phil up.) I wondered if his is just chance or a 'homage'? Peter88 92.23.10.26 (talk) 21:46, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
TV Credits[edit]
It's not on the main article, but I saw Phil Silvers on a Charlie's Angles episode last night. --2602:30A:2E23:1090:99A0:2499:182D:2D5A (talk) 12:59, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
War Service[edit]
Why did Phil Silvers not serve in WWII? Was it his age? Did he have dependants? He was 31 at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. But he did perform USO tours.81.159.165.100 (talk) 17:12, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
