This should not be a redirection to Electric eel, even though its genus is also Electrophorus (carrier of electricity). The electrophorus devised by Johannes Wilcke and Alessandro Volta is a simple capacitor used to collect static electricity. --Peterlin 09:06, 17 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I have written a short description of how electrophorus works. It would be nice if some native English speaker (preferrably with some knowledge of physics :) edits it. :) --Peterlin 09:36, 17 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Contact electrification[edit]

It's unclear to me whether the device is charged directly by rubbing, or by contact with some other object which has been rubbed. I don't know whether I've clarified correctly. -- Beland 13:07, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
