Punctuation inside quotes[edit]

Please take a look at the Wikipedia:Manual of Style: Punctuation>Quotation marks, re splitting the difference between US & UK usage. In some of your changes to the Madrid article, you might be overstepping the bounds of the carefully struck mid-Atlantic balance! Hajor 19:54, 12 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Madrid 11[edit]

I want to thank you for your cooperation in that article. For us from Spain it is quite important. Pfortuny 18:07, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Large-sized note page[edit]

Thank you for making the Large sized note with no hyphen get re-directed immediately. But, have you read the page yet??

No. I really don't know anything about the subject. I was just fixing an error that I noticed that crawled through the Recent Changes page. RadicalBender 19:46, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Removal of Rank Insignia Image[edit]

I am sorry I had to remove the rank insigia on second lieutenant as it showed the rank of first lieutenant (a silver bar). It would be solved if you could source the gold bar. Kind Regards Dainamo March 14, 2004

PIG[edit]

whats the deal with the reverting on pig? Crackshoe 23:38, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thank You![edit]

I want to thank you DEEPLY for your support in the vote to promote me to a sysop. I promise to do my best to be as helpful, sensible, and neutral as possible. Your friend, Ryan.

Re b. vs born, it's in Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies). I hear tell there was a great deal of discussion about it before I even got here. Just a minor typographical edit to fix, really, not much to worry about. - Hephaestos|§ 02:10, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Yes, but I don't.... oh no!!! --MerovingianTalk 07:19, Mar 20, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for you kind expression of support on Rfa; much appreciated. My section of the vote is getting somewhat overlooked by the ongoing Hcheney controversy, but I'm still 6/0! Hajor 02:18, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the help on the X-43A page. I just figured out how to upload pictures. Any tips or complaints, Joshua Roberts 01:59, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Actually, it worked out perfectly. I noticed the article on Current Events, grabbed a picture, cropped it and by the time I got to the article, there was already another one there! Wikipedia in action! :) RADICALBENDER 02:01, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I know, it's really pretty awsome. This just happened today, and already we've got one heck of a site on it! Makes me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile! Joshua Roberts 02:22, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your corrections --Neuromancien 01:14, 2004 May 26 (UTC)

Gadsden Purchase Map[edit]

Splendid map you made! But, I must admit, even as a map-head, I'm a bit lost. D'you think it would be possible to include markers for a city or two? I'd suggest Phoenix or Tucson (T. is inside the Gadsden tract, isn't it?), El Paso -- and maybe Santa Fe, it's remote enough not to get too crowded. What do you think? Feasible? Or would it be just too fiddly? Hajor 18:47, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hmmm. I suppose it's possible. The only problem would be I don't know which cities would have existed at the time of the Gadsden Purchase. I think Tucson might be in that territory, but otherwise... Let me do some research. RADICALBENDER 18:49, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Wow, fast reply! Tucson, Santa Fe, and El Paso / Juárez were all mission towns when the territory belonged to New Spain. Don't know about Phoenix. Hajor 18:56, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Heh. Well, let's see: according to my big honkin' atlas, Tucson, Yuma and Sierra Vista seem to be the three largest cities inside the Gadsden Purchase today. Phoenix and all of its suburbs - Glendale, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, are just outside of the Gadsden purchase, as is Silver City, NM and Las Cruces, NM.
I'm not as concerned now about the historical cities of the time since there weren't very many in the region (still aren't). So, we'll just go with some nearby modern ones for context.
Let's try this. Texas isn't really in the map, so I'll leave out El Paso, but let's do Phoenix (out), Tucson (in), Yuma (in), Sierra Vista (in), Las Cruces (out) and Alamogordo (out). That sound allright? RADICALBENDER 19:03, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Ok, Sounds good. Shame about El Paso, but yes, you'd have to include another set of state lines and the int'l border for it to make sense (and the end result would be too fussy, I suspect). So go ahead and try that. See how it works out, but (with a 250px or so display inside the article...) I'd suggest Sierra Vista as the prime candidate for the chop. Hajor

Not worth redoing for just this, but if you make a new version, how about Santa Fe. I added material in the article about it, in reference to the difficult of governing that part added to the New Mexico Territory. -- Decumanus | Talk 19:30, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Oh, what thing of beauty hast thou wrought! Don't listen to the naysayers suggesting that Sierra Vista wouldn't fit. Splendid work! Hajor

Okee-dokee. New map is up. File is now in .png format (which is what it should've been all along). I made the city labels a bit larger than what I normally use (14pt vs. 12pt) so that they should still be readable shrunk at 300px. I also added Santa Fe in. :) RADICALBENDER 19:39, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Fantastic! That was fast! -- Decumanus | Talk 19:40, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Caps[edit]

How do you put those cool capital letters in your nickname? Ludraman | Talk 19:28, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

In your preferences, there's an option for "Your Nickname (for signatures)". This is what gets displayed at: [[User:RadicalBender|RIGHTHERE]]. All I did was change it from "RadicalBender" to "R<small>ADICAL</small>B<small>ENDER</small>" and that makes it in drop caps. Plus I added the little star for a link back to my talk page. So, my full information in that field is "R<small>ADICAL</small>B<small>ENDER</small>]][[User talk:RadicalBender|<small>★</small>"

deletion of graffiti[edit]

RB, when you delete crap like "For free poop call..." you might want to trim the edit summary a bit. Y'know, so as to avoid calling attention to the stuff you're deleting. When I delete non-article stuff, I simply say "removing graffiti" in the edit summary. I think it provides even LESS of a provocation to vandals this way... Anyway, keep up the good work; you're better at it than me! --Uncle Ed 18:56, 29 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Have you a later pic?[edit]

Hey RB, the photo of the aircraft you placed on the T-6 Texan page is of a very early unusual model. Would you have a pic of the retractable wheels model which was the common one used by the thousands all round the world? Cheers. Moriori 03:52, Mar 30, 2004 (UTC)

Hrm. AF.mil only has two pictures of the T-6 Texan (the original). The one I posted and a really terrible picture that isn't even loading all the way for me. Here's where I got it from: [1]. I'll look around some more, though. RADICALBENDER 03:54, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Phew, that WAS quick. Cheers. I'll look around as well. Cheers Moriori 03:56, Mar 30, 2004 (UTC)
Heh. I'm pretty quick on the draw to responding if I'm already on the site. :) Anyways, the only other decent photo I can find that's of any reasonable size is this one: [2]. It does have the retractable landing gear, but it's parked on the ground. Would that work better, you think? RADICALBENDER 03:59, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Please stop messing up Danzig. The page shall be a redirect, as already discussed at Talk:Gdansk with archives. This obscure band and unknown people does not justify making so an important city name a disambiguation. Neither should Washington, Berlin or Warsaw be disambigs. The band etc. are moved to Danzig (disambiguation), and a link will be inserted in the main article (Gdansk). Nico 19:37, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Movie scans[edit]

Hi, nice work for adding a movie poster for articles. Could you tell me where did you get those scans? so that I can add scans too. Just wandering around amazon.com or something? Thanks. -- Taku 20:24, Apr 3, 2004 (UTC)

Actually, all of those where from a part of my DVD collection. So, they're all actually DVD covers and not movie posters. Not pulling from any site, I'm afraid - just a guy with a scanner and some free time. ;) RADICALBENDER 20:27, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hello! That what I wanted to do, but I have not learned how to do that yet! So-I'v just been c&p, if you know how create as a msg that would be great. Radical I noted your civility comment-could you organize a vote on whether or note white seperatism is racist or not perhaps it would help people give their positions in a more civil mannor. Thanks GrazingshipIV 19:35, Apr 8, 2004 (UTC)

Listed my argument as requested in order for a vote. GrazingshipIV 20:34, Apr 8, 2004 (UTC)

As the issue still seems very much unresolved I think the forementioned vote would be appropriate. I have responded to your points. GrazingshipIV 00:57, Apr 10, 2004 (UTC)

Can we have this vote already? The conflict is rising it would be better to have the vote so we can get past the issue. GrazingshipIV 05:14, Apr 12, 2004 (UTC)

Many thanks[edit]

Many thanks for your kind support in my neverending Adminiship vote, RadicalBender. I personally appreciate that you expressed that you were not going to vote, but voted in favor after you had read what I had to say. That meant a great deal to me while I was being attacked by a few. Greyengine5's footers[edit]

Hi - the huge footers that Greyengine5 is plastering across the modern USAF articles is part of a wider debate over the use of such footers in WikiProject Aircraft. Please take a look at the dispute here and add your comments... --Rlandmann 03:32, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Here's my take on an alternative. Feedback appreciated. --Rlandmann 04:01, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Hello just to give a correction. That debate with RL was about fikri's footer on those pages, and beyond that, having page content in footer. The latest arguments presented there had changed my mind about those issue, and as such, went back to work on a pure nav series.
I find it quite usefull when working on those pages, and if size is a problem it could be shrunk a lot just leaving the designations. I had also hoped it could be standard for other airforces. The hard-coding was so in the future some categories could be 'shrunk' in the usual fashion you see in other series (further cutting back on its size). Greyengine5 16:47, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Airline logos[edit]

Hey Radical, here are a few airline articles in need of logos. Where they are based is in parenthenses.

  • Air France (Paris France)
  • Continental (Houston TX United States)
  • Delta (Atlanta GA United States)
  • Emirates (Dubai United Arab Emirates)
  • Japan Airlines (Tokyo Japan)
  • Northwest Airlines (Eagan MN United States)

Your edit to WNBA[edit]

Why shouldn't it be a dis-ambiguation page?? Suppose someone wants to create an article for WNBA-AM and is totally unaware that WNBA re-directs. There is a good advantage of a dis-ambiguation page in the case of someone wanting to do this. 66.245.85.1 15:01, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Even if they want to do that, the radio station is not as important as the basketball league. Because this is the case, WNBA should point to the primary article and then an article for WNBA-AM could be mentioned at the top of the Women's National Basketball Association article. See #3 under Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Types of disambiguation. RADICALBENDER 15:10, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Dragonbal Manga[edit]

Did we ever come to an agreement over whether or not there was a "Dragon Ball Z" manga for the purposes of the list of manga? (see the related discussion). I agree with you that there is a manga called "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" in the US. There is a manga called "ドラゴンボール" in Japan, but there is no manga called "ドラゴンボールZ" in Japan and therefore "Dragon Ball Z" doesn't count as a manga for the purposes of the list. (A better question is why it bothers me that it's a distinction... and that I would care enough to ask about it twice... maybe I need to find a new hobby...) Jrp 21:06, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I'd say leave it but attach a note saying what you're saying here to make the distinction. If it's left off the list, someone will inevitably add it in later. RADICALBENDER 02:53, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Escort carrier decommissioning dates[edit]

There are some dates that you have used for the escort carrier decommissionings in the infoboxes that do not have an obvious source. For example, with the USS Breton you list the decommissioning date as 3 July 1946. That cannot be the RN decommisioning date because by that time the USN had custody of the ship, but the DANFS entry doesn't say about the USN decommisioning date either. David Newton 21:42, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I can't remember where I got the date, but finding any accurate dates seems to be impossible sometimes. Looking online again, the date seems to be the date the ship was struck rather than decommissioned, but probably some site listed it as both. Honestly, I'm not sure. RADICALBENDER 02:53, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
I've been using the DANFS dates, and where possible the Naval Vessel Register dates. Uboat.net also has dates which seem to coincide with sources like that. As for finding the original dates being impossible, I would think that paper copies of the NVR from the time concerned would contain the answer. The database onine isn't anywhere near complete but it and its antecedents have been the place of record for USN ships for a long time. Failing that the original deck logs of the ship would contain the answer, since they would stop upon decommisioning after all. However, since that would mean a trip to either the Naval Historical Center or NARA I can't see that being particularly practical. David Newton 20:02, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

CWS Bracket[edit]

Can you do me a favor when you get a chance. I struggled along with the picture of the CWS Bracket over the run of the Series. There are a lot of previous versions and reverts, can you go ahead and delete the non-relevent versions so they won't take up storage place? The last version is the final one and should stand un-changed. You can find it at here

Yardcock 22:42, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It isn't really hurting anything and I can't delete individual revisions anyways. RADICALBENDER 02:53, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Your ban[edit]

Hi. I noticed you banned 64.217.26.84 with the explanation "Repeated, concerted vandalism". The user has made one single contribution, in my eyes a legitimate one which you reverted. No evidence of vandalism that I can see. Also no warning of any kind on their talk page. Please do not ban people like that. Thanks. — Timwi 06:49, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Baseball pages[edit]

Hello!

I want to thank you for the corrections and/or additions to my baseball contributions.

Yours truly, MusiCitizen 15:43, Jul 14, 2004 (UTC)

Baseball categories[edit]

Are all these categories (one for each year's All-Star team) really necessary? It seems to me that most major league players could probably do quite well with just one or two categories organized by position; even a category for each team seems awkward to me. Optimally, as an alternative, there would be a page for each year's All-Star Game, linked to the players' pages. It's just that I can see the categories getting to be too much. (Some players would have 15 to 20 categories for All-Star teams, another few for teams, potentially others for awards, plus those for positions.) MisfitToys 02:57, Jul 15, 2004 (UTC)

Major League Lacrosse Logos[edit]

Hi RadicalBender I see that you have added a whole bunch of sport leagues and teams logos and was wonder if you would also include the Major League Lacrosse and its teams if you had some free time thanks either way 22:21, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)Smith03
